Well i believe that u have installed FC7 in ur system. Moving on.
The very first thing i tried to do was setting up internet connection in Fedora. Coz if i cant setup internet connection i cant work on Fedora.
I am having broadband connection provided by BSNL Dataone service 256kbps.
I tried various linux forums but in vain. I gathered from the tidbits from the net. it was most difficult task coz i had to login in windows, search the net, save the html file and then come back to Fedora to set it up.
Heres how u do it
- After loging in to Fedora go to System at the top menubar. Go to administration and click on network.
- It will ask for root password. You will be presented with following screen. Look below
- Click on new icon. Here you see device type on left side. Click on Ethernet and move on to next. Look below.
- Select your ethernet card. here i struggled most. i had three options shown to me. i tried all of them one by one untill i successfully configured it. its eth1 for me. Look below
- In the next screen u will be asked to enter the ip address, subnet mask and default gateway address.
- Enter them as follows. Address 192.168.1.2 Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway address 192.168.1.1 Look below
- There u are. you will have the connection created with inactive status. go to DNS tab and enter primary dns as 61.1.96.69 and secondary dns as 61.1.96.71
- Go to file and and click on save. you are done.
- Just reboot ur pc and remember dont shut the Quidway router device. Let it remain on.
- If luck favors u it might work for you. I tried nearly half a dozen times untill i finally succeeded.
- Yes one more thing before rebooting you have to activate it after saving. ie after step 8 this is the step you have to follow.
- Also after creating connection. click on it and then click edit and the check the option 'Activate device when computer starts'. look below
- Click on the image to enlarge them
- The first image is the most important one. I have marked some arows there. the painting software in linux is awful not used to it so bear with me. coming back in my article i have marked some words in bold Those are the name of buttons in the main screen.
